Birdwatching is a fun and relaxing hobby in Heartopia that is all about precision and patience. Unlike other hobbies, it gives you a unique way to explore the world as you track and record different types of birds everywhere you go.

Why Choose the Birdwatching Hobby?
Many players tend to delay unlocking the Birdwatching hobby until the very end, usually because other activities are seen as faster ways to grind large amounts of Gold. However, don't let that discourage you every successful scan, from 1-Star to 5-Star ratings, still provides a consistent flow of Gold for your pocket.
If you are an achievement hunter, this hobby offers a deeply rewarding challenge. For every single bird species, you can progress through thousands of scans to reach the Master rank. Once a specific species hits the Master level, you will be rewarded with an exclusive Bird Statue of that species. Compared to other hobbies, the progression toward these collectible statues is incredibly efficient.
So, if you're looking to fill your gallery with prestigious trophies, there’s no reason to hesitate start your birdwatching journey early without worrying about your Gold balance.
Meeting Your Mentor Bailey J
Once you have finished the main quest and decided which hobby to pursue, make sure you have a Hobby Expansion Ticket ready to unlock it. With your ticket in hand, head over to the Town Center and go to the upper floor of the Pet Shop.
How Scanning Works
Scanning is the heart of this hobby. Once you spot a bird in the wild, here is how you capture its data:
- Lock-On
Aim your reticle at the bird to secure a steady lock. - Info Cards
A successful scan creates an Info Card, keeping a record of the species and your highest Star Rating. You can submit up to 5 Info Cards per day to Bailey J to receive exclusive Bird Food and other random rewards. - Energy and Durability
Keep an eye on your stats; every scan uses 1 Energy and wears down your Scanner's Durability. - Earning Rewards
You can trade these cards with Bailey J for special rewards or simply sell them for Gold.
Birdwatching Skills and Level Up Rewards
As you improve your birdwatching skills, you will earn points to upgrade your hobby. Each upgrade unlocks new rewards, from discovering additional bird species to unlocking specialized tools that make your scouting much easier.
Here are the essential skills and tools you can unlock as you level up
- Scanner Maintenance
Boosts your scanner’s durability, allowing you to take more photos before needing repairs. - Observation Skill
Enhances the scanner’s overall performance for better scouting. - Action Recognition
Helps you identify new bird poses instead of marking them as unknown. - Info Card Recycling
Enables you to turn in your collected Info Cards to Bailey J in exchange for special rewards. - Burst Mode
Increases your chances of receiving an extra Info Card when scanning birds. - Perfect Photo
Raises the star rating by one when the bird is photographed perfectly centered and at close range. - Auto Bird Whistle
A helpful tool available for purchase from Bailey J to improve your birdwatching efficiency. - Camouflage Bush
A unique duck-shaped bush that helps you stay hidden so you don't startle the birds.
Star Rating System & Bird Poses
Your Info Card rating (from 1 to 5 Stars) is determined by the bird's pose at the exact moment you hit the scan button. To get the highest rating, you’ll need to watch for these 5 primary pose types:
| Preview | Pose Type | Base Rating |
|---|---|---|
| TBA | Idle | ⭐ |
| TBA | Find Food | ⭐⭐ |
| TBA | Chirp | ⭐⭐ |
| TBA | Clean Feather | ⭐⭐⭐ |
| TBA | Stretch Wings | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
The Secret to 5-Star (Perfect Photo)
A 5-Star Rating can only be achieved by triggering a Perfect Photo, a mechanic that automatically unlocks once you reach Birdwatching Level 4.
- How to Trigger It
To get that perfect shot, keep the bird exactly in the center of your reticle within a 5-meter range. This will grant an extra +⭐ to the bird's base rating, effectively turning a 4-star pose into a rare 5-star entry. - Pro Tip
Don't risk scaring the bird away by walking too close. Instead, stay back and use the Zoom function to safely hit the 5-meter requirement.
Understanding Invalid and Unknown Scans
Not every scan will result in a successful Info Card. If your scan fails, you will receive one of these two results:
- Invalid Scan
This happens if the bird flies away before the scan finishes or if your Scanner loses focus. It is purely a technical fail during the process. - Unknown Behavior
This occurs when you try to scan a bird that is above your current level. For example, if you are Level 4 but attempt to scan a Level 6 bird, the Scanner won't be able to identify its behavior yet.
